The gonvernment on Friday announced that the coronavirus lockdown will be extended for two weeks beyond May 4th, but with some easing of restrictions.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement that in a view of significant gains in the Covid-19 situation areas with few or no cases of coronavirus would see considerable relaxations.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also issued new guidelines to regulate different activities in this period based on the risk profiling of the districts of the country which are categorized into red zone, orange zone and green zone.
The new guidelines have permitted considerable easing of restrictions in green and orange zones.

What are Red, Orange, and Green zone in India

These zones have been classified in terms of districts with either zero confirmed cases till date or no confirmed cases in the last 21 days.

Now according to the list there are 


  1. 132 red zones where more stringent restrictions will be enforced post method.
  2. 288 districts are in orange zone.
  3. 319 are in green zones.


There will be a partial easing in orange zones and liberal easing in green zones. However all metropolitan cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad are into the no activity zone even after the lockdown ends on May 3rd.

What activities are allowed and what are prohibited in (Lockdown 3.0) after 3rd may?


Now the MHA has issued a comprehensive guideline as to what activities are allowed and what is prohibited in what zone let us have a look at it first we will know about

  1. Travel by Train, Road, air and Metro is completely prohibited in any part of the country except the categories that have been allowed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.  Now the ministry of Home Affairs had earlier issued a guideline saying that the migrant workers in standard persons can be sent back to their hometowns after the proper registration with the district authorities and the nodal officers yesterday the allowed the transportation of migrant workers via trains apart from these people the stranded workers who are registered no one can use the rail services or bus services.
  2. Education and training institutions like schools, colleges will remain completely closed however the online and distance learning has been permitted. many are already turned to online and distance learning. however the Ministry of Human Resource and development will later on develop a complete draft and it will prepare a guideline when the schools and colleges will open up regarding the social distancing norms and how to conduct classes keeping in mind the social distancing norms and measures to prevent the spread of covid-19.
  3. Hospitality services including hotels and restaurants have been prohibited from opening in any part of the country.
  4. Gyms, parks, theaters, malls and bars etc will also remain closed however while malls are closed and standalone shops in residential complexes in neighborhood have been allowed to open up even if it is non-essential the only condition is it should be a standalone shop or it should be a neighbourhood shop or a shop in residential complex but no malls no marketplaces have been allowed to open up.
  5. Moving on the movement of people between 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. for non-essential activities has completely been banned so between 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. you could not go out unless it is emergency or unless it is essential.
  6. Religious, social and political gathering has also been completely banned so no religious no social or political gathering can be held across the country during the period of the lockdown.


That is what the MHA guidelines have said now let us look at the red zones.


What is red zone in corona

Red zones are the areas where coronavirus has turned into a hot spot and coronavirus cases are more severe than now. these red zones are further divided into containment zone. on containment zones a district which has marked red in the list of MHA has certain areas where covid-19 outbreak is severe now these zones are containment zones. rest of the areas may not have that severe outbreak or even any cases of coronavirus at all.

  1. Every activity is prohibited except for the movement of persons for the supply of essential goods and services and medical emergencies. so apart from these two exceptions no activity has been allowed in containment zones.
  2.  OPD and medical clinics has also been advised to completely closed down inside the containment areas.

  1. flying off rickshaws taxis other cab aggregators services buses will also remain prohibited outside the containment zones of a red zone.
  2. Barber shop salons shops and spa will remain completely closed all the other activities prohibited throughout the country.
  3. Religious political gatherings and the gatherings at gym parks etc that will also remain completely prohibited outside the containment zone of a red zone.


What is allowed outside the containment area of a red zone ?


This is also divided into two categories

  • Urban
  • Rural

 so let's let us first see urban areas

  1. The movement of people vehicles for permitted activities is allowed industrial establishments like special economic zones are allowed to operate 
  2. Manufacturing of essential goods like drugs medical devices and their supply chain is allowed to operate.
  3. Manufacturing of IT hardware jute industry construction work very very important construction work has been permitted however only if the workers who are working on the construction site residing on this side now there are several migrant workers who have already returned to their home state or they're already on their way to return to their home state after the MHA had permitted.
  4. Use of trains specialists romic trains for carrying the migrant workers to their home state now the construction workers if they are residing on site some of them who have left behind. if they are residing on site and they are not going to go to their hometowns then only the construction works can strut moving on stand-alone shops and shops in the neighborhood. 
  5. Residential complexes are allowed to open up this was also there in the earlier guideline ecommerce activities for essential goods has been permitted in this area private offices with 33% strength have been allowed to operate so 
  6. Private offices now can open up however only 33 percent of the total employee strength can operate. 
  7. Operation of homes for senior citizens, children and destitutes can also be carried on government offices can open up only emergency health sanitization and security services department can open up in this regard

  1.  All industrial and construction activities have been permitted by the MHA.
  2. All shops except shopping malls have been allowed to operate.
  3. Animal husbandry all agricultural and plantation services can also be carried out now several people have pointed out that the quraysh crop is now two months away and they had also requested the central government to give a leeway for the farmers in the lockdown relaxation.

  5. All Health Services are allowed to operate Financial sector including the banks and NB fc's are allowed to operate in the rural areas.
  6. Public utilities courier and postal services have been permitted as well 
  7. print and electronic media can also function in the rural areas 
  8. Services by self-employed has been also permitted so if you are a self-employed for example if you are a tail or if you are a plumber's all these self-employed professionals are allowed to operate however not the barbershops. let's move on to our end zone let us look at t



Orange zone restriction


  1. Fminter and intra gistic plying of buses are completely prohibited except for those permitted by a machine now this is also for this stranded persons students and tourists that the exception is given.

  1. All activities in orange zones are allowed outside the containment area of a red zone so basically whatever the activities which are allowed outside the area a containment area of a red zone they are also allowed in the orange zone as well
  2.  Taxi service is allowed here but there is a condition if you are using taxi then only two passengers are allowed inter-district movement of vehicles and people for permitted activities only four-wheelers can be allowed to apply on roads. however with only two passengers and a driver so basically there should be only three people in a four-wheeler and on two wheeler only person who is riding the bike the pillion rider is allowed.

  1. All activities have been allowed in green zone except those banned across the country so the activities that are completely prohibited across the country they cannot function in green zones
